They get what they deserve

Carol Bebelle and the Justice and Accountability Center of Louisiana (JACL)
were named recipients of the fifth annual Diana Lewis Citizen Participation Awards from the Committee for a Better New Orleans. Bebelle was recognized for her work with Ashe Cultural Arts Center, and JACL was honored for its work helping formerly incarcerated people re-enter civic life. They will receive the awards at a ceremony Aug. 20.

Children's Hospital
received a $75,000 Hyundai Young Investigators Clinical Award on July 16 from Hyundai Hope On Wheels. The award recognized Dr. Chittalsinh Raulji's work on docosahexaenoic acid administration and its impact on glioblastoma multiforme, an aggressive primary malignant central nervous system tumor. Children's Hospital has received $290,000 from Hope On Wheels since 2006.

Purina Cat Chow
donated $2,500 to Animal Rescue New Orleans (ARNO) through Purina's Building Better Lives program, which gave 50 cat-focused shelters across the U.S. a total of $275,000 in donations. ARNO received a $2,000 cash donation to support future adoptions and $500 worth of cat food.

The Department of Children and Family Services
mismanaged nearly $1.3 million in Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits, according to a report from Legislative Auditor Daryl Purpera. Between July 1, 2009 and June 30, 2013, nearly 4,000 households with deceased participants received SNAP benefits loaded on Louisiana Purchase cards.
