Madeleine LeCesne
was named one of five National Student Poets by President Barack Obama's Committee on the Arts and the Humanities. It is the country's highest honor for young poets. LeCesne, a student at Lusher Charter School, was honored at a poetry reading featuring first lady Michelle Obama and will spend the next year as a student literary ambassador to libraries, museums and schools.

Sean Payton
bought 100 jerseys with the name and number of the Cincinnati Bengals' defensive tackle Devon Still. Still's 4-year-old daughter Leah has stage 4 neuroblastoma cancer, and the Bengals are donating the money from each jersey sale ($100 apiece) to cancer research. Still thanked the New Orleans Saints coach in a note: "It's just showing the world how it's not all about how competitive you can be on the field, it's about what you can do to help out humanity."

BP
tried to "claw back" some $185 million — plus interest — in settlement payments that the British oil giant paid to Gulf oil spill claimants, all of whom signed releases in favor of the company in exchange for the money. Last week, U.S. District Judge Carl Barbier denied BP's motion for the claw back, saying the terms of the settlement agreement specifically exempted changes resulting from future litigation. BP vows to appeal, which only further drags out the already protracted litigation spawned by the oil company's gross negligence in the 2010 oil disaster.
