Call for Nominations: New Orleanian of the Year

Gambit is seeking nominations for our annual New Orleanian of the Year, an honor given to a local resident who has made outstanding contributions to the metropolitan area during 2009.

To submit a nomination, send a brief biographical sketch of the nominee and the reasons you believe this person deserves recognition. Elected officials are not eligible.

Please email your nomination to with "New Orleanian of the Year" in the subject line; fax it to Kandace Graves at 483-3116; or mail it to 3923 Bienville St., New Orleans, La. 70119. Nominations must be received at the Gambit office by Tuesday, Dec. 15.

Gambit's New Orleanian of the Year will be announced in our Jan. 5, 2010 issue.

On last week's cover ("Bahn Appetit," Nov. 17), Gambit used an image of the current Vietnamese flag. Vietnamese-American readers let us know the flag — while technically correct — is associated with the oppressive regime that many of them fled, and they prefer to use the flag of South Vietnam (three red stripes on a yellow field). Gambit regrets any offense that was caused.
