Wine bar and bistro Chais Delachaise (7708 Maple St., 504-510-4509; www.chaisdelachaise.com) is now open Uptown. The offshoot of the St. Charles Avenue wine haunt The Delachaise (3442 St. Charles Ave., 504-895-0858; www.thedelachaise.com) took over the space formerly home to The Sammich, which closed late last year.
Owner Evan Hayes says dishes won't be as rich as dishes at his flagship. Because the bistro eventually will add lunch service, there are more salads and lighter options including plenty of seafood dishes, such as ceviches and sashimi-style preparations, Hayes says.
Executive chef Daniel Volponi (formerly of Ursa Major) is overseeing the kitchen. The eclectic menu includes Malaysian beef rendang, Dutch-inspired bitterballen (meat croquettes), octopus escabeche and Mediterranean-style lamb sliders topped with harissa. Chais Delachaise offers a wide selection of cheese and charcuterie.
The restaurant is open for dinner from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. daily.
