Children of Eden

Everyone wants perfect children. But it's not easy. You warn them not to touch something and then the next thing you know it's forbidden fruit. They just can't help themselves. After a glimpse into the family dynamics of the Garden of Eden, it's hard not to wonder if Adam and Eve weren't done a disservice by the single-parenting model. Children of Eden doesn't quite go that far, but it does look at some biblical stories as classic parent-child struggles. The operetta is actually lighthearted and also at times joyous and revealing as it reimagines Adam and Eve, Cain and Abel and Noah's trials in more contemporary settings. It's all about letting go and watching children make their own choices. The piece was composed by John Caird and Stephen Schwarz, who also created the scores for Godspell and Pippin. The modern score works its way through rock, reggae, gospel and Broadway notes. Tickets $17, $10 ages 18-under. -- Will Coviello
