The James Beard Foundation announced its third annual Taste America: Local Flavor from Coast to Coast schedule for this fall. There are events in 10 cities between Sept. 18 and Nov. 7, and each features a four-course dinner prepared by a local chef and a Taste America chef.
The New Orleans segment is Oct. 9 at the Hyatt Regency New Orleans (601 Loyola Ave., 504-561-1234; www.neworleans.hyatt.com). The event begins at 7 p.m. with cocktails and hors d'oeuvres from Tory McPhail of Commander's Palace, Ryan Prewitt of Peche Seafood Grill, Alon Shaya of Shaya, Stephen Stryjewski of Cochon and Gautreau's Sue Zemanick.
A dinner will be prepared by chef Donald Link, host chef Eric Damidot of 8 Block Kitchen and New York chef April Bloomfield. Emeril's New Orleans pastry chef Jeremy Fogg will prepare desert.
Tickets start at $300 and a table of 10 costs $5,000. A portion of proceeds benefits the James Beard Foundation's Taste America Scholarship Fund. Culinary students in Louisiana are invited to apply for the scholarship between April 1 and May 15, 2016 via www.jamesbeard.org. Ticket reservations also are available on the foundation's website.
