Coming Home : An Exhibition of Monoprints by Kathleen Hayek

We hear a lot about people exiled by Katrina and unable to return to their former homes. Yet even before Katrina, twists of fate took people far and wide, and while their exile may be voluntary, the longing for home remains. A series of projects has kept Louisiana native Kathleen Hayek in New York for the past 20 years, working at the Pratt Institute and serving as founder and president of the South of the Navy Yard Artists (SONYA), but that sense of connection remains. "Coming Home traces my physical and spiritual journey. ... The symbols of home that I've used are suggestive of doors, rooftops, arches and windows as focal points in urban and rural landscapes. These are simple creations, done with utter spontaneity, joy and love of natural forms and color harmonies." -- D. Eric Bookhardt
