Dayton Contemporary Dance Company

The Dayton Contemporary Dance Company's piece "Children of the Passage" speaks in a familiar language: brass. A joint performance by the ensemble and 30 local dancers combines African chants and circle dances choreographed to music by the Dirty Dozen Brass Band. The Dayton Company members have been artists in residence for a two-week program with the New Orleans Recreation Department (NORD). "Children of the Passage" and two other pieces comprise the presentation at Loyola University's Roussell Hall. The other two pieces bring to life the paintings of Jacob Lawrence -- the Harlem Renaissance artist renowned for his Migration Series -- "We Ain't Goin' Home But We Finna Way To Get The Hell Up Outta Here" and "Jacob's Ladder." Tickets $10 general admission, $20 students/seniors. -- Lauren LaBorde
