Dr. Lonnie Smith with Herlin Riley at the CAC

Aug. 27

At a Blue Nile gig during this year's Jazz Fest, Dr. Lonnie Smith played the Hammond B3 like a possessed massage therapist, his turban bobbing over the instrument as the good doctor released every ounce of tension with his fingers. This gig, with drums great Herlin Riley, should bring the knots back to 2010's relaxed Spiral (Palmetto), Smith's 22nd solo outing since 1967. Tickets $20 general admission, $15 students/CAC members. 7 p.m. Saturday. Contemporary Arts Center, 900 Camp St., 528-3800; www.cacno.org
