Driving Music Park the Van Records Showcase

9 p.m. Fri., June 12

Marigny Theatre, 1030 Marigny St., 218-8559;

A record-release mutation of sorts, this Park the Van shindig fetes the creators of the last three albums issued by the New Orleans indie imprint, as well as the first area band signed by Chris Watson and company since relocating home from Philadelphia in December. Opener Floating Action (aka North Carolinian Seth Kauffman) debuted on the label in April, yet his lo-fi, self-titled collection of unhurried soul serenades carried away by an early-'60s Caribbean breeze is already a catalog high point. Generationals, a new group fronted by former Eames Era songwriters Grant Widmer and Ted Joyner, will preview the wealth of jaunty, hook-heavy singles from its debut Con Law, due in July. Detroit trio the High Strung polishes its literary bent into blissful, sun-kissed guitar pop on April's sophomore offering, Ode to the Inverse of the Dude. And the Peekers headline, capping an eventful season that saw the Shreveport sextet release its first LP, Life in the Air, and play to packed houses in support of Dr. Dog and Girl Talk. Tickets $8. — Noah Bonaparte Pais
