Electronic Tax Filing On The Rise

The number of state tax returns filed electronically this year is up 57 percent over the same period in 2009, according to the Louisiana Department of Revenue. Louisiana File Online, LDR's free tax filing Web application, has recorded 24,224 returns so far in the first month-and-a-half of 2010. During the same period last year, 15,413 returns had come through. "We are pleased to see that so many Louisiana taxpayers, resident and nonresident alike, are discovering the speed and convenience offered by online filing," Secretary of Revenue Cynthia Bridges says. In addition to simplifying the process, online filing also allows taxpayers to receive refunds faster. "With Louisiana File Online, many taxpayers are receiving their refunds within 14 days," Bridges says. "With paper filing, the average wait is six to eight weeks."
