Ernie Vincent and Marc Stone

If you've ever flipped through the brochures available in the lobby while killing time at traffic court, you know that Algiers Point has a solid pedigree as a hotbed for evolving traditional jazz. The Wednesdays on the Point summer music series brings the music back across the river with weekly gigs at some of the Point's cozier watering holes, like the English pub-themed Crown and Anchor. The cocktail-hour set means you can enjoy a breezy summer-evening ferry ride both ways from the Canal Street dock. (If you get there early, grab a walking tour guide from the court's lobby and check out the sites of concert halls and landmarks from days of yore.) This week's offering is a guitar duel between the popular WWOZ DJ Marc Stone (pictured) " who's brought acts like soul queen Betty Harris and sacred-steel legends the Campbell Brothers to the Best Bank " and Ernie Vincent. One of New Orleans' stalwart rockers (and maybe best-kept secrets), Vincent burned a hole in the blues in the late '60s and early '70s with searing soul-funk tunes like 'Dap Walk" and 'Monkey in a Sack." When Ernie K-Doe staged his comeback in the '90s, Vincent and his Top Notes were his first regular backing band. Free admission. — Alison Fensterstock
