The American Cancer Society will host its "evening of wine and roses" Saturday to benefit programs in cancer research, education and service. Local restaurants will offer menu items for guests to enjoy; the Topcats and the Last Straws will provide the evening's musical entertainment. Fine wines from around the world also will be available for gala-goers. There will be a live and silent auction of items made by New Orleans merchants, with all proceeds going toward the American Cancer Society's 2005 fundraising goal of $800,000. During the gala, the organization will also present its Spirit Award to area physicians, cancer survivors and contributors. The honorary chairs of this year's event are Kyle France, Frank Nicoladis, John Georges and David Perlis. Celebrity co-chairs are Dennis Woltering and David Bernard of WWL. Cokie Roberts (pictured) and retired U.S. Rep. W.J. "Billy" Tauzin are this year's survivor honorees. Tickets $100.
