Festival of the Rising Sun

The only thing weirder than Quintron and Miss Pussycat in a museum? Q&P in a tree. Riding a wave of news-making raves in 2009, the NOLA Art House collective stages its first major party of 2010 and highest-profile happening yet: the inaugural Festival of the Rising Sun, a weekendlong Mardi Gras music festival headlined by everyone's favorite 9th Ward exhibitionists. Joining them in the house's glowing, five-story backyard installation are the Lafayette Afropop lovers GIVERS (pictured), New York/Texas jazz-fusion outfit Snarky Puppy and two-dozen New Orleans artists from every genre imaginable (rockers Big Rock Candy Mountain, folkie Andrew Duhon and bounce DJ Rusty Lazer to name a few). The festival also promises street performers, food and art vendors and "plenty of other surprises" (read: more bare asses than Bourbon Street). Tickets $25 each day or $60 for a three-day pass. — Noah Bonaparte Pais
