Larry Gelbart has just about done it all. Having already won two Emmys in the 1950s for his writing work on Your Show of Shows (featuring Sid Caesar and Imogene Coca) and a Tony in the 1960s for penning A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, Gelbart cemented his place in American popular culture as the driving creative force behind the TV version of M*A*S*H. (He wrote, produced and directed episodes during its golden period of 1972-76.) And if you're wondering what Gelbart has done for us lately, at age 78 he has opened up a Floodgate. Only Gelbart, who saw the same darkly funny parallels that Robert Altman saw in the Korean and Vietnam wars, could see the darkly humorous undertones to Hurricane Katrina. He is scheduled to be in attendance for this star-studded staged reading (Jay Thomas, Vernel Bagneris, John "Spud" McConnell and Stocker Fontelieu, among others, of his newest play). Delgado theater instructor Kristopher LaMorte directs. Friday's 6:30 p.m. patron party features the stars, cocktails and food, with desserts from Delgado's Culinary Arts Department and a "talk-back" with the cast following the performance. Tickets for the show $20 general admission, $10 students; patron party tickets $100. Proceeds from the patron party go to the CAC Katrina Performing Artists Fund and scholarships to affected Delgago students. --ÊDavid Lee Simmons
