America the Party

Patriotic festivities include a Jell-O-eating contest, a dunking booth, music and the food trucks Fat Falafel, Grilling Shilling, Theo's Pizza and The Boxcar. Admission $5.

July 4
Bucktown Bash & Shrimp Festival
10 a.m.-8 p.m. Friday
Bucktown Marina, Carrollton Avenue at Metairie-Hammond Highway
The blessing of the fleet begins at noon, followed by musical performances by Leon Russell, Zebra, the Bucktown All-Stars and others. There's also Louisiana seafood, crafts, kids' activities and more. Admission $5, free for children 12 and under.

July 4
Independence Day party

2 p.m.-9 p.m. Friday
Twelve Mile Limit, 500 S. Telemachus St., (504) 488-8114
Mid-City Neighborhood Organization co-hosts a celebration featuring music by Sweet Crude and food vendors Crepes a la Cart and The Cluck Truck.
