Top Honors
Congratulations to Charles Goodson, recently named Restaurateur of the Year by the Louisiana Restaurant Association. Goodson owns Charley G's restaurants in Lafayette and Metairie, Metro Bistro in New Orleans and Tib's Seafood Grill in Destin, Fla. Among his many noteworthy contributions to the Louisiana community, Goodson has been an active member of the Louisiana Restaurant Association since 1985, serving both on its Board of Directors and as State President.

Rocky's II,
Congratulations also to Old Metairie for scoring a new Rocky's Gourmet Pizzeria (3222 Magazine St., 891-5152; 2701 Airline Drive, Metairie, 833-1288) as of Friday, Sept. 14. The new restaurant's menu will reflect the fare Uptown folk have been enjoying for years, including weekday lunch specials and a slew of pizzas. While I would be fibbing if I said I preferred Rocky's over my newest Warehouse District find (see review), the 2-for-1 pizza deal on Monday and Tuesday evenings at both locations is a sweet way to pack tomorrow's lunch.

Jack's Back
Jacques-Imo's (8324 Oak St., 861-0886) is open after a long, fried chicken-less month of August, and Chef-owner Jack Leonardi is kicking off his return with an alligator cooking demonstration at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 15, at the Crescent City Farmers Market (700 Magazine St., 861-5898, www.loyola.edu/ccfm).

Friends and Wine
On Saturday, Sept. 15 on the 51st floor of Place St. Charles (in the Bank One building), Friends of the Cabildo are hosting an evening of "Fine Wines and Fantastic Views." A selection of wines, food catered by Partysist and participation in a silent auction are included in the $50 fee (the Friends consider this a "donation"), which goes to support the Louisiana State Museum. Call 523-3939.

Down in the Cellar

Martin Wine Cellar (714 Elmeer Ave., 899-7411) is taking reservations for an "Australian Walk About" wine tasting to take place from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sept. 30. Owner of The Australian Premium Wine Collection John Larchet will guide a stroll through wines from eight regions Down Under. As usual, a gourmet array of European meats and cheeses will accompany the sipping. The tasting costs $30 per person. For more information, visit www.martinwine.com.

Crabby Demeanor
If you catch this column early in the week, you might make the crab-centric deals at Mr. B's Bistro (201 Royal St., 523-2078). The special menu runs through Wednesday, Sept. 12, and features dishes like crabmeat fondue and crabcakes with Yukon Gold waffle-cut potatoes. -- Roahen
