The kitchen at Midi South of France (Le Meridien Hotel, 614 Canal St., 527-6712) is entertaining the talents of a new executive chef, Philippe Pinon. While he has made the rounds at highly regarded restaurants in Europe and the United States, Pinon most recently was executive sous-chef at the Windsor Court Hotel (300 Gravier St., 522-1992). He replaces Chef Emmanuel Bernard, who has returned to France.
Summer at Galatoire's
Galatoire's (209 Bourbon St., 525-2021) continues its summer tradition of monthly five-course wine dinners on Tuesday, July 9, with a dinner showcasing wines from Simi and Mount Veeder wineries. Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays at Galatoire's always bring three-course business lunch specials, and this summer martini prices are slashed in half during weekday lunches.

Marigny Brasserie (640 Frenchmen St., 945-4472) is now serving lunch Monday through Friday. Chef Steve Zucker's midday dishes include wild mushroom-crusted salmon and the already-renowned spinach salad with strawberries and walnuts.
On Saturdays during July, the Crescent City Farmers Market is featuring the International Language of Food. Each week, a chef will conduct a cooking demonstration in his or her first language. Sammy Tewelde from Red Sea Restaurant (7838 Earhart Blvd., 861-9639) kicks off the program this Saturday with food and talk from his homeland, Eritrea. Demonstrations by French Chef Rene Bajeux of Rene Bistrot (817 Common St., 412-2580), Panamanian Chef Adolfo Garcia of RioMar (800 S. Peters St., 525-FISH) and Vietnamese Chef Vy Banh of Pho Tau Bay (113-C Westbank Expwy., Gretna, 368-9846; 3112 N. Arnoult Road, Suite G, Metairie, 780-1063) will follow later in the month.
