Tour de Force
Join Charley G's (111 Veterans Memorial Blvd., Metairie) for the third annual "A Culinary Tour of Acadiana," a benefit for LaSalle Park, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 3. Along with dishes like rabbit sauce piquante and tasso corn maque choux, guests will enjoy Cajun music and dancing. LaSalle Park is located on Airline Drive next to Zephyr Stadium. Hundreds of trees have been planted there already; there's a two-mile jogging path, and plans are underway to build an environmental education center. Tickets cost $75; call 737-7583.
Cobalt (Hotel Monaco, 333 St. Charles Ave., 565-5595) is celebrating the autumnal bounty at the market during Tuesday's Abita Fall Fest dinner. Four courses incorporating locally grown and harvested products will be paired with Abita beers; proceeds from each $50 dinner will benefit the Crescent City Farmers Market. Here's a taste of one course: spicy shrimp and citrus-cucumber stir-fry, served with Abita Golden. Call to reserve a seat.
Bring your costumed kiddie to the Crescent City Farmers Market for trick-or-treating, pumpkin and face painting, storytelling and trick-or-treat bag decorating from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. this Thursday. The Thursday market is located at 3700 Orleans Ave. Call 861-5898, e-mail email@example.com or visit www.crescentcityfarmersmarket.org.
The Truffle's No Trifle
A few days remain of Bacco's (310 Chartres St., 522-2426) fourth annual October Truffle Festival, featuring white truffles imported from the region of Alba, Italy. There's a four-course nightly truffle tasting menu; this week's lunch special is a scallop salad served with white truffle shavings.
In suburban news, Corky's (4243 Veterans Memorial Blvd., Metairie, 887-5000) is now serving half-pound burgers, and Al Copeland just opened the second Copeland's Cheesecake Bistro up the road at 4517 Veterans Memorial Blvd. This Metairie location has something called Al & Jen's Favorite Cosmo Bar, complete with a waterfall and a panel of ice where you can set your drink between sips in order to keep it chilled.
