Kid Friendly
Duke
LoCicero, chef-owner of Cafe Giovanni (117 Decatur St., 529-2154)
and co-host (with brother "Rocky") of Dig In Saturdays on WSMB
1350 AM from noon to 1 p.m., is cooking to help kids this Saturday, Dec. 7.
A $65 ticket buys an evening of Robert Mondavi wines paired with Chef Duke's
food, a "not-so-silent" auction and a fashion show. All proceeds benefit The
Chef Duke Foundation for Kids, which this year is providing gifts to children
spending the holidays in Tulane University Hospital's pediatric oncology department
rather than at home. Call the restaurant for reservations.
Lip Tickler
From
this Thursday through Thursday, March 3 2003, Zoe Bistrot (W Hotel, 333
Poydras St., 207-5018) will sample champagnes from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m., an event
called Tickle My Lips (you big brut). The $15 flight featuring Bollinger,
Veuve Clicquot, Ruinart and Piper Heidsick includes appetizers. Additional glasses
cost $7, and the champagne flights are also offered during Sunday brunch for
$12.
Sporting
Affair
A
new NBA team in town offers more excuses for hanging around sports bars and
gathering to eat with friends before or after a game. The folks at Smith
& Wollensky were all over that when they opened Doc Smith's Lounge
(1009 Poydras St., 561-0528), an upscale sports bar (or lounge) with three flat-screen
televisions, seating for 150 people and casual food from Smith & Wollensky's
Chef Robert Bruce. The menu includes specialty cocktails, savory beignets,
pizzas, po-boys, muffalettas, chocolate cheesecake lollipops and cigars. Doc
Smith's is open from 4 p.m. to 2 a.m. daily.
