Happy Anniversary
Cafe Degas (3127 Esplanade Ave., 945-5635) is celebrating its 17th anniversary this month with $20.03 three-course regional American menus. The Southwest is this week's culinary theme. Next week, taste from the Northwest Pacific Coast; the Deep South will inspire Chef Steven Hassinger during the final week of March. The American regional menus are offered Monday through Saturday for dinner only.
Through the Grapevine
Michael Mondavi, the eldest son of Robert Mondavi, will host a wine dinner at Bourbon House (144 Bourbon St., 522-0111) beginning at 7 p.m. Tuesday. He will pour Mondavi's recently released Reserve Cabernet 2000, as well as limited production Robert Mondavi District Wines. The five-course, six-wine dinner also includes grilled venison with a white bean and black truffle stew, and a black mission fig tart. The cost is $75 per person.
Through the Grapevine, Part II
Ken Bernards, proprietor and winemaker of Ancien Winery, will pour his own pinot noirs at a Martin Wine Cellar tasting at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The cost is $28 per person.
Succulent Soiree
The Youth Service's Bureau's Chef Soiree
2003will be held from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday at Bogue Falaya Park in Covington.
Participants
in the swanky, outdoor evening will eat and drink from around 80 restaurant
and beverage purveyors; there will also be loads of live music, a St. Patrick's
Day parade and a high-stakes raffle. The Youth Services Bureau was founded
in 1981 "to answer the needs of at-risk youth and families"; today it provides
prevention and early-intervention programs in St. Tammany and Washington
Parishes. Tickets are $85 per person and can be purchased only in advance
at Braswell Drugs (1107 Tyler St., Covington), The Grapevine (1600 Hwy. 190,
Covington), Monet's (Northlake Shopping Center, Mandeville) and at the Youth
Services Bureau (150 Cleveland Ave., Slidell).
Salute
Congratulations to Taste Buds Greg Reggio,
Hans
Limburg and Gary Darling, for receiving the honor of Restaurateur of the Year
from the Louisiana Restaurant Association Greater New Orleans Chapter. The trio
created the Zea Rotisserie concept and the Semolina restaurant company.
