Chef Tom Wolfe and his staff celebrate
the third anniversary of Wolfe's New Orleans (7224 Pontchartrain Blvd.,
284-6004) with a full-bore culinary celebration at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, June 26.
The evening starts with a champagne and hors d'oeuvres reception featuring music
by the Sullivan Dabney Trio. The action then moves to the dining room, where Wolfe
will present a four-course tasting menu with specially selected wines. Admission
to the birthday feast is $80 per person (tax and tip excluded). For reservations
or menu information, call the restaurant at 284-6004.
Uptown Tea Party
Eve's Market (4601 Freret St., 891-4015) will host a "Midsummer Evening Mini-Concert and Tea Party" from 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Thursday, June 26. Local trumpeter and Dr. John sideman Charlie Miller will provide entertainment for the late-afternoon event. They'll be pouring various cooling brews (both fresh and bottled, herbal and traditional) and serving finger sandwiches featuring the German-style artisan breads of Mississippi-based baker Karl Mueller.
Summer Sips or Albino Vino?
It's a busy week for the folks at Martin Wine Cellar, with two installments of their "Tasting Series" hitting before month's end. The first happens on Tuesday, June 24, when the local merchant whips up "Cool Cocktails" -- hot-weather libations from the traditional and progressive ends of the cocktail spectrum. Martin's house chefs will serve high-end cheeses and noshes to take the edge off. The Tuesday event will be held in the main tasting room of Martin's Metairie location (714 Elmeer Ave., 896-7300) from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tickets for the event are $17 (advanced registration required). Then on Thursday, the Uptown location (3827 Baronne St., 899-7411) plays host for a wine-related tasting, "Summer Sippers." It's a great chance to preview 20 white wines, along with chef's specials, pates and artisanal cheeses. Most of the bottles are priced in the $10-$14 range, so if you're searching for an affordable hot-weather house wine, here's your chance. The tasting runs from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, June 26. The $30 per person ticket price includes a one-night $5 gift certificate.
More Than One "Best"
In last week's coverage of the New Orleans Food and Wine Experience's 2003 Fleur de Lis Culinary Awards, we accidentally overlooked the folks at Restaurant Cuvee; Executive Chef Robert Iacovone and crew won "Best of Show" distinction in the Savory Dish category with their braised pork breast with jicama citrus slaw, sweet heat adobo and Yukon Gold potato salad. Our apologies for the omission.
