Shaggy's Seafood and Sandwich Shop (4413 Banks St., 484-4440), a new joint in Mid-City, is developing a specialty in hot dogs modeled after the street eats of other cities. For instance, there is a Chicago-style beef hot dog on a poppy seed bun topped with a dill pickle spear, sliced tomato, whole sport peppers, yellow mustard, onions, celery salt and a sweet relish with the electric green color of mint jelly. The "New York street dog" has sauerkraut and mustard, and there are bratwurst, chili cheese dogs and "slaw dogs" covered in coleslaw. The hot dogs are $5.50 each and come with fries. The restaurant also serves po-boys and fried seafood. Shaggy's is located in the restaurant space behind the Banks Street Bar (4401 Banks St., 486-0258; www.banksstreetbar.com), which had been Gigi's Asian Bistro. The restaurant opens for lunch at 11 a.m. and stays open through 6 p.m. Monday to Wednesday and until 1 a.m. Thursday to Saturday.
Burgers on Harrison
Lakeview Harbor (911 Harrison Ave., 486-4887) has reopened on the main commercial corridor of Lakeview that was wiped out by the levee failures. Lakeview Harbor is serving drinks and some food at its rebuilt bar and expects to begin serving its trademark burgers and other menu items again by the end of March. Fans of the casual tavern often favorably compare it with Port of Call (838 Esplanade Ave., 523-0120; www.portofcallneworleans.com), and many of its employees once worked for the famous French Quarter burger destination. In addition to its half-pound burgers and baked potatoes, Lakeview Harbor's menu includes steak, pizza and fried seafood. It opens daily at 11 a.m.
World's Healthiest Pizza Reopens
World's Healthiest Pizza (6307 S. Miro St., 865-0244; www.worldshealthiestpizza.com), the take-out/delivery pizza shop with the memorable name and one-of-a-kind pizza boxes, has reopened at its new location, the former site of Bayou Bagelry on South Claiborne Avenue. World's Healthiest Pizza first opened in October on a Gert Town side street but now has a new home base with more modern ovens to fill orders faster. The shop's local founders say World's Healthiest Pizza lives up to it name because of its crust, which is made from at least 10 different grains and a fiber-rich supplement called inulin. Toppings are more familiar, including cheese, sausage and pepperoni, but the shop's founders say that just by changing the crust, they are helping patch a nutrient deficiency in the typical American diet. World's Healthiest Pizza's Web site and even its pizza boxes are packed with nutritional information explaining their claim in great detail. The new shop is open daily from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. and provides free delivery. There is no in-store seating.
