Cork & Bottle (3700 Orleans Ave., 281-4384; www.cbwines.com) is taking its show on the road to host a wine tasting with more than 75 wines and artisanal cheeses on Friday, June 20. The event will be held at the downtown loft offices of wine distributor Purveyor of Fine Wines (1040 Magazine St., 523-5230; www.winepurveyors.com) from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The deep list of wines available includes some rare and reserve bottles, as well as single malt scotches. In addition to a cheese selection, appetizers will be provided by the Que Crawl, a barbecue catering truck. Tickets are $65 per person and must be purchased in advance at Cork & Bottle.
Dan Stein, avowed beer fanatic and proprietor of Stein's Market and Deli (2207 Magazine St., 527-0771; www.steinsdeli.net), is co-hosting a dinner and beer pairing with chef Miles Prescott at the Country Club Restaurant (634 Louisa St., 945-0742; www.thecountryclubneworleans.com) in the Bywater on Monday, June 23. It's part of an informal series of events Stein is conducting at restaurants around town as he builds the specialty beer selection at his own Uptown deli. Brews from England, Belgium and America will share the billing with a creative four-course menu of dishes that follow the evening's beer theme. Smoked hops will join a carpaccio of lamb loin, for instance, while sausage made with Covington's own Heiner Brau beer will be the stuffing for a soft-shell crab. The cost is $55 per person, and the dinner begins at 7:30 p.m.
