Benevolent Brunch Each year, chefs and restaurateurs around the country take part in a benefit called Taste of the Nation , organized by Share Our Strength (www.strength.org) and billed as America's largest fundraiser for efforts to end childhood poverty and hunger. Once again, New Orleans will host its version in the form of a jazz brunch on Sunday, July 13, beginning at noon at Bourbon House (144 Bourbon St., 522-0111; www.bourbonhouse.com). Locals volunteering for the event include Frank Brigtsen of Brigtsen's Restaurant , Greg Collier of Red Fish Grill , Adolfo Garcia of RioMar and La Boca , Donald Link of Herbsaint , Stephen Stryjewski of Cochon , Tenney Flynn of GW Fins , Justin Devillier and Joel Dondis of La Petite Grocery , Danielle and Richard Sutton from St. James Cheese Co. , Tariq Hanna from Sucré , Darin Nesbit of Bourbon House , Ian Schnoebelen and Alan Walter of Iris and Susan Spicer of Bayona . Tickets are $75 general admission, $125 including the VIP pre-party, which begins at 11 a.m. For tickets, visit www.tasteofthenation.org. Glass Act Georg Riedel of high-end stemware maker Riedel Crystal will be in New Orleans for a special tasting event on July 18 at the Parkview Terrace of the historic Casino Building in New Orleans City Park . Riedel, a 10th-generation glassmaker, will lead a seminar on the importance that proper glasses play in wine appreciation. The Mid-City wine shop Cork & Bottle (3700 Orleans Ave., 483-6314; www.cbwines.com) is hosting the event at the City Park venue and will pour wines during the tasting. The cost is $95 per person, and reservations are limited and necessary. Call Cork & Bottle to reserve a space. French Connection The Crescent City Farmers' Market (700 Magazine St., 861-5898; www.crescentcityfarmersmarket.org) is getting this year's Bastille Day celebration going early at its market on Saturday, July 12, from 8 a.m. to noon. Local bakers from Binder's , Leidenheimer's and Gendusa's bakeries will be on hand, and a historian will discuss French bread through the city's history. Also on July 12, a group of local businesses in the Faubourg St. John area will hold a Bastille Day street fair on Ponce De Leon Street at Esplanade Avenue from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. The party will feature French cuisine from Cafe Degas and other local restaurants, live music, local artists and a children's art area. — McNulty Headed for the Tropics Chef Chris DeBarr has parted ways with The Delachaise . He currently is working with Chef Miles Prescott on a tiki-inspired dinner scheduled on Thursday, July 17, which has been moved to The Country Club (634 Louisa St., 945-0742; www.thecountryclubneworleans.com). Tiki mixologist Jeff "Beachbum" Berry and rum expert Wayne Curtis will mix exotic tropical cocktails to match each course.
