The Long Way Home The Steak Knife Restaurant and Bar (888 Harrison Ave., 488-8981; www.steakkniferestaurant.com) has reopened in its original location in the heart of Lakeview's commercial corridor. The levee failures wiped out the restaurant and forced the closure of its then-new second location downtown on Poydras Street. By February 2007, owner Bobby Roth opened a new Steak Knife on Pontchartrain Boulevard in a property that had much lighter Katrina damage, but he closed that location in March citing an escalating lease. Now three years after the storm, the restaurant is back on the corner of Harrison Avenue and Marshall Foch Street, serving much the same menu of steaks and Louisiana seafood as before. Roth's late father first opened the Steak Knife in 1971 in a location across the street, and the family moved the restaurant to its current address in 1991. The Steak Knife is open for dinner Monday through Saturday. Roth says he plans to resume jazz music in the dining room on weekends beginning next month. Brunching for Beauty Parkway Partners , the nonprofit that helps beautify the city's neutral grounds, small parks and other outdoor public spaces, is inviting supporters to spend a Sunday afternoon inside to enjoy food from local restaurants, open bars, jazz music and a chance to poke around a historic building. This Sunday, Oct. 19, is the group's annual Feast with the Stars fundraiser, held from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Gallier Hall, where local public figures, including many television personalities, serve food and drinks provided by local restaurants, hotels and markets. There is a large silent auction, and jazz bands wander through the rooms. Tickets start at $75. For details, go to www.parkwaypartnersnola.org. Praise and Braise The local outpost of the House of Blues (225 Decatur St., 310-4999; www.hob.com) has resumed its popular gospel brunch service on Sundays for the first time since Hurricane Katrina. Local and regional gospel choirs perform and food stations are spread throughout the room, offering all-you-can-eat traditional Southern brunch fare and New Orleans-style dishes like jambalaya and boiled seafood while wait staff pour unlimited mimosas. The single-seating brunch begins at 9:30 a.m. and costs $40 for adults and $20 for children. — McNulty
