Food journalists who visited New Orleans last year for the International Association of Culinary Professionals (IACP) conference collaborated on a book called Room in the Bowl, published by the Southern Food and Beverage Museum. It's filled with the contributors' ruminations on gumbo. The release party is 2 p.m. Saturday at the museum (Riverwalk Marketplace, 569-0405; www.southernfood.org) and will include plenty of gumbo. The book is available exclusively through the museum store and Web site.
A pre-Katrina Kenner destination for Spanish cuisine has reopened in Lakeview. Madrid Restaurant (300 Harrison Ave., 482-2757) is back, and original chef and co-owner Juan Hernandez is offering tapas, paella and other traditional dishes of his native Spain at this new incarnation. Madrid serves dinner Monday through Saturday, but does not yet have a liquor license.
