Four: New Work by Don Gurewitz, Barbie L'Hoste, Joetta Maue and Patricia Zalisko

The art world is notoriously mysterious, hermetic and, frankly, not very democratic. At least, not until the BECA Gallery used the Internet to enlist more than 400 art enthusiasts in 11 countries around the world to select the top 10 artists in their online assortment. Titled Curate This, the works in this final selection include such diverse media as painting, fiber arts, ceramics and photography, and are published in a catalog of the same name. Works by the top four " Don Gurewitz, Joetta Maue, Patricia Zalisko and New Orleanian Barbie L'Hoste (whose collage painting, Broken Trees, is pictured) " make up BECA's current exhibition, Four. An unusual expression of participatory democracy, it is all part of BECA's broader mission as a 'bridge for emerging contemporary artists." — D. Eric Bookhardt

Through Sept. 28
