Gal Holiday's Hard Candy Christmas

10 p.m. Wed., Dec. 24

Mimi's in the Marigny, 2601 Royal St., 872-9868;

There's nothing like a little country music on Christmas to help you squeeze a tear or two into your eggnog. Gal Holiday and DJ Andy Average will fill your Christmas Eve with a DJ set of twangy tunes about drinking, fighting and losing at love — the perfect recipe for a honky-tonk Yule. Besides standard Honky Tonk Revue fare (Nashville classics from Merle Haggard, Loretta Lynn, George Jones and others), there will be a few holiday surprises to throw some mistletoe into the mix. At midnight, the Dolly Parton look-alike contest kicks off — a $100 prize goes to the contestant with the highest hair. In the event's namesake song, Dolly muses, "Maybe I'll hit the bars/ Maybe I'll count the stars." Mimi's may not serve the apple wine La Parton considered getting drunk on for her own hard candy Christmas, but there's plenty of other wassails on tap. Free admission. — Fensterstock
