Gerald DeLoach: New Landscape Paintings

Cole Pratt was the affable gallerist who chose Magazine over Julia Street because he wanted to be accessible to the casual strollers and window shoppers who flocked to one of the city's most diverse shopping districts. And while the New Orleans arts community still mourns the passing of Pratt, who died from a heart attack late last month at age 53, we are reassured that his legacy " the gallery that bears his name " lives on under the guidance of longtime director Erika Olinger. This month's featured artist, Gerald DeLoach, is, like Pratt, a native of the Mississippi Delta. Influenced by Henry Henche of the Cape Cod School, DeLoach paints luminous canvasses that reflect his fascination with the subtleties of the Delta landscape and the elusive radiance of Southern light. — D.
