Girl Talk

Greg Gillis doesn't want you to think of Radiohead's OK Computer only in the context of alt-rock's newfangled classics. The Girl Talk spin doctor asks you to consider the 1997 album as an alt-reality foundation for Jay-Z's authoritative flow. In Gillis' mashed-up musical universe, backward is forward and past is present; Paula Cole is hip-hop and the Wu-Tang Clan fronts teen pop. Feed the Animals, Girl Talk's exhilarating 2008 release (Illegal Art), is a whacked-out pastiche of cut-up melodic ribbons restitched by Gillis into something wild and wondrous " something, in many instances, that's way better than the originals. It's a dance record on which Busta Rhymes taunts the Police before tangling with James Brown, and the Jackson 5 jives to a beatboxer while DJ Kool wrangles Old Wave away from Dexys Midnight Runners. More impressive, it's an auditory roller coaster for attention-deficit culture vultures where everything already mentioned happens over the course of one seven-minute stretch. Pittsburgh slapstick rappers Grand Buffet and New York City electro-rockers Hearts of Darknesses open. Tickets $15. " Noah Bonaparte Pais 9 p.m. Fri., Oct. 17
