Gladys Knight

8 p.m. Fri., Nov. 21
Ernest N. Morial Convention Center, New Orleans Theater, Hall H, 520-7575

Soul queen Gladys Knight has endured at the top of the game for more than half a century, scooping up seven Grammy Awards, many No. 1 pop and R&B hits from her 38 album releases, induction into the Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame and a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. In the late '60s and '70s, she became one of the Motown label's signature voices, delivering hits like "Midnight Train to Georgia" and "I Heard It Through the Grapevine" with her fancy-stepping Pips. Knight performs as part of Liberty Bank's gala tribute to Xavier University president Dr. Norman C. Francis, who — as the longest-serving college president in the United States — is celebrating his 40th year heading up the historically black college. The host for the evening is comedian and philanthropist Bill Cosby. Tickets $50 and up. — Alison Fensterstock
