Jazz Fest may be over, but the music and musicians live on -- in art. As the Fair Grounds festivities wound down, several musical photo shows opened, including maestro Herman Leonard's classic
Jazz Giants at the Ogden Museum. Meanwhile on Julia Street, the featured attraction is
Portraits of New Orleans Musicians by Greg Miles. If you don't know his name, you may know his photographs because they are everywhere -- contemporary classics that capture such fabled subjects as Clarence "Frogman" Henry (pictured). A New York fashion photographer for 13 years, Miles and his wife Zoe moved to her hometown of New Orleans in 2002. After an assignment making photo portraits of local musicians, "I was hooked," he says. "I love the realness of these men and women, they are truly the salt of the earth and the heart of the city." --
