Ever since Bruce Springsteen and his Seeger Sessions band closed its 2006 New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival set with an extended version of "When the Saints Go Marching In," the Boss has been like an adopted son of the Crescent City and a welcome face at the Fair Grounds. He returned in 2012, and he's back this year with his E Street Band for a nearly three-hour show on the Acura Stage on Saturday. They're among a huge roster of rock, jazz and R&B legends, top contemporary bands and local favorites performing at the second weekend of Jazz Fest, including John Fogerty, Arcade Fire, Solange, Chick Corea, Allen Toussaint, Al Jarreau, Irma Thomas, Alabama Shakes, Mary Mary, Trombone Shorty and Orleans Avenue and many others. Plus there's festival food, crafts, social aid and pleasure club parades and more. The following pages include Count Basin's daily recommendations, interviews with musicians and a pullout section with a map, daily schedules and festival information. Look for Count Basin's reviews of performances and highlights from the festival in coming issues and on www.bestofneworleans.com.
