Gypsy punks Gogol Bordello return to New Orleans

New Orleans missed the 10th anniversary tour of Gypsy Punks: Underdog World Strike, the celebratory fall 2015 circuit during which Gogol Bordello played its visa-stampeding third LP in its entirety. The border-warring Epcot rockers haven't been cold-shouldering one of its favorite stopovers. It's more a matter of saturation: The band ransacked the House of Blues last spring and pulled the pin on the 2014 Voodoo Music + Arts Experience months before that. And all without any new material — Pura Vida Conspiracy (ATO), the group's last album, is almost three years old. Given this recent history, it's hard to say which direction Eugene Hutz will steer his handlebar. He may reach back for some Underdog treats, barking about the perils of youth over blood-curdling female screams; he may stick to Pura Vida's more modern script, adhering to the most focused (read: least batshit) setlist Gogol ever produced; or, more likely, he may Cuisinart the whole catalog, cutting his vodka with vermouth (Super Taranta!) for good measure. Birthed in Ukraine, baptized on Manhattan's Lower East Side and currently based in Brazil, the transcontinental hustler was born on tour. Frank Turner and the Sleeping Souls and Walter Schreifels open. Tickets $34.50-$42.50.
