Free Seminar on Chest Pain
Pendleton Memorial Methodist Hospital presents a free seminar from noon to 1 p.m. Wednesday (Dec. 5) to discuss chest pain. Dr. Lloyd Geringer Jr. will discuss "Diagnosis and Treatment of Chest Pain" during the hourlong seminar in the Methodist Hospital Auditorium. Lunch will be served. Free Care in the East
A new health center opened in eastern New Orleans last week to help provide medical care to the approximately 30,000 low-income and uninsured people in that community.

EXCELth Inc. Family Health Center (9900 Lake Forest Blvd.) provides health screenings for diabetes and foot care, high blood pressure, depression and HIV. Its focus is primary and preventive health care, as well as helping patients apply for Medicaid, Women Infants and Children (WIC), Louisiana children's Health Insurance Program and KidMed.

The center also includes an in-house pharmacy that offers Sharing the Care, a program in which Pfizer pharmaceutical company donates medications to patients who can't afford them.

Art of Yoga
Certified yoga instructor Kellie Whitmyer begins teaching a 10-week course today in an unusual setting: Jonathan Ferrara Gallery (841 Carondelet St., 522-5471. Cost of the 10 classes, scheduled from 6:15 p.m. to 7:15 p.m. on Tuesdays, is $100.

Healthy Babies
The Society for Maternal-Fetal Medicine (SMFM) will present the latest research results and information about genetics, pregnancy issues, fetal surgery, health services, diabetes and pregnancy and new technology at the SMFM's 22nd annual meeting in New Orleans Jan. 14-19.

More than 650 research papers that deal with medical issues facing women of childbearing age will be presented at the meeting, which will be held in the Hilton Riverside. Organizers say the meeting will hold interest for expectant parents and women considering pregnancy as well as health-care professionals.
