Using their experiences treating post-traumatic stress disorder along the Gulf Coast, Drs. Karin Thompson and C. Lauren Franklin wrote The Post-Traumatic Insomnia Workbook (New Harbinger Publications, September 2010, $21.95), with techniques to help overcome such problems as fitful sleep, trouble falling asleep, early waking, sleep anxiety and nightmares.
Many of the techniques and cognitive therapy included in the book result from Thompson's and Franklin's experiences working as psychologists in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina and treating military personnel in the Veterans Administration system. The authors also are assistant professors at Tulane University School of Medicine.
