What was the name of the ice cream shop that was very popular in the 1970s? It was located on Franklin Avenue near North Claiborne Avenue. My husband and I remembered how good the ice cream was but cannot remember the name. Could you help us?

Dear Cheryl,
Lots of folks have fond memories of places that "ain't dere no more" where they used to enjoy ice cream and other New Orleans treats. I remember in the early 1960s going to the shop you mentioned and getting a big scoop in a cone for seven cents. Hayes Very Fine Ice Cream at 1246 Franklin Ave. was in business until 1975, when it became Savoie's Dairy Bar, which lasted about four years. After a period of vacancy, Catalano's Produce took over the property.
