Hey Blake,
I found a Pat O'Brien's glass that's a bit odd. For starters, it's not a Hurricane glass but a simple 6-ounce hi-ball glass — and it has "New Orleans 16, LA" on it. Do you know anything about the 16, and, more important, will this glass make me rich?
Phil Oncale
Dear Phil,
Don't bet on getting rich. There were lots of these glasses made with the "16" on them. Pat O's glasses were made after 1943 when the postal service implemented the two-digit number to represent different areas in a city. "New Orleans 16, LA" was the code at 718 St. Peter St., the address of the famed bar. In 1963, the postal service changed to the ZIP code system, and today the ZIP code at Pat O'Brien's is 70116, with the 701 representing the local central mail processing facility.
