Home Movie Day

One thing Katrina reminded all of us was just how invaluable our countless family photographs and home movies were. Many wept over these losses, or gushed relief that even though they lost almost everything, they still had these precious items. Home Movie Day celebrates these captured moments of time with two separate events. On Friday, Zeitgeist Multi-Disciplinary Arts Center will present a collection of personal films created by local professional, independent and experimental filmmakers before and after Hurricane Katrina. For those more inclined to film the family cat attacking the Christmas tree, there is a chance to have your efforts screened on Saturday afternoon at the Historic New Orleans Collection. Participants will be encouraged to narrate their films as well discuss them. Film archivists will inspect your movies and let you know how to preserve them. Jazz drummer Barry Martyn and his quartet will be on hand to add a little musical flavoring. Both events are free. -- David Winkler-Schmit
