Several area state representatives have gotten new committee assignments from House Speaker Jim Tucker on the eve of this year's legislative session. Rep. Jared Brossett, D-New Orleans, has moved from the Insurance Committee to the House and Governmental Affairs Committee, a change that will put him in the thick of redistricting efforts next year. Rep. Walt Leger III, D-New Orleans, has moved from the Education Committee to the Criminal Justice Committee. Leger was a prosecutor before winning his legislative seat. Elsewhere, Rep. Tony Ligi, R-Metairie, has been appointed to the Municipal, Parochial and Cultural Affairs Committee, and Rep. John Schroder, R-Covington, has moved from the Criminal Justice Committee to the Education Committee. — Clancy DuBos
