Idol Worship- Afghan Star

After 30 years of war, it's not hard to see why Afghan Star, an American Idol-style amateur singing contest, is Afghanistan's most popular show. But fundamentalist Islamic views govern much of the nation, and women singing and dancing on TV is offensive to many. Zeitgeist (1618 Oretha Castle Haley Blvd., 827-5858; www.zeitgeistinc.net) screens the Sundance Award-winning documentary Afghan Star at 7:30 p.m. July 21-29.
