"Is there a city Lost and Found?"

Blake Pontchartrain: the N.O. It All

Hey Blake,

Is there a city Lost and Found?

Dear Reader,

Our local arenas, casinos, hotels, taxi companies and airports have lost and found offices, but City Hall doesn't have a Lost and Found Department. If a good Samaritan finds an item on a public street or sidewalk, the best thing for him or her to do is turn it in at the nearest police station. If no one claims it there, it eventually is sent to Central Evidence and Property.

To find an item you lost that hasn't been turned over to police, peruse the "Lost and Found" listings in the local newspapers (they usually are in classified ads) or visit Craigslist New Orleans, which has an active "Lost and Found" page in its "community" section. Most of the posts concern lost pets, but a few mention jewelry, keys and wallets.

The city occasionally liquidates its surplus supplies, equipment and confiscated assets through online auctions at PropertyRoom.com. Revenue from the sales benefits the city.
