A street with a name like that would have to be named after somebody special. Thomas Urquhart was a businessman, politician and civic leader. He was born on his father's plantation in St. Francisville on June 25, 1773, and later moved to New Orleans. Elected to the board of directors of the Bank of Louisiana, Urquhart eventually became president of the bank. As a supporter of Gov. Claiborne, Urquhart became Speaker of the Louisiana House of Representatives. He was also a member of the convention that met in New Orleans to draft the Louisiana application for statehood. Urquhart died in New Orleans on April 6, 1841.
