Italian Break: A Festival of Recent Film & Video From Italy

Zeitgeist's inaugural Italian Break examines where Italian cinema is going with a showcase of recent film and video compositions. Experimental short films and animations by Milano filmmaker Lidia Lidia are at the heart of the offerings. The artist worked at Zeitgeist this past summer and curated the festival. Programming also includes short films that emphasize prevalent themes in recent Italian cinema. There are video journals, time lapse segments and video triptychs. Full-length features that have screened on the international film festival circuit include award-winning works by Gian Paolo Cugno, Guiseppe Bertolucci and others. Bertolucci's documentary presents a long-withheld interview with controversial director Pier Paolo Pasolini given just months before Pasolini's violent murder in 1975. Tickets $7 general admission, $6 students/seniors, $5 Zeitgeist members, $12 for a festival day pass. — Bryan Davis
