Jammin' on Julia

Julia Street will have its own festive spirit Saturday evening, with free music on outdoor stages, art gallery openings and food and drink booths providing refreshments. The annual Jammin' on Julia fundraiser is taking more of a White Linen Night approach by making it a free outdoor party. Julia Street will be turned into a pedestrian promenade with tables and vendor tents, and galleries and museums throughout the arts district will host receptions, including the Contemporary Arts Center and the Ogden Museum. Scheduled performers include the Black Eagle Mardi Gras Indians, Clive Wilson and the Camellia Jazz Band, Johnny Parker, Loose Marbles Street Band, accordionist Patrick McPeck, Tony Green (pictured) and Gypsy Jazz. The New Orleans Arts District Association (NOADA) organizes the party to bring locals to the district and to raise funds to promote New Orleans as an arts destination. Food and drinks will be available. -- Emily Hohenwarter

6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Sat., May 5 Julia Street (between Commerce Street and St. Charles Avenue)
