Justice

8 p.m. Friday

PlayStation/Billboard.com Stage

Parisian dance duo Gaspard Augé and Xavier de Rosnay, both halves of Justice, will preside over a massive, outdoor discotheque at the Voodoo Music Experience, despite Internet rumors and Twittering to the contrary.

The Mustache and The China (Augé and Rosnay, respectively) made American headlines for 2007's † (aka Cross), a Grammy-nominated dance party and conceptual pop opera overstuffed with distorted synthesizers, liberal use of song samples and irony-free disco, captured on the infectious, aughts-friendly club funk of the chart-topping single "D.A.N.C.E." But the button-mashing and keyboards will be relatively low-key for the Voodoo crowd. The DJ-only set features the duo's danceable reworkings of contemporaries, mixed with doses of pseudo-originals, classics and mashed-together club favorites. The good news is that Justice is well acquainted with the ones and twos. When not behind a veil of electronic gizmos, synths and samplers, Justice handles remixes for the likes of Britney Spears, Franz Ferdinand and N.E.R.D., as well as co-headliner Lenny Kravitz's "Let Love Rule" — Mustache and China send his guitar-god neo-soul into Off the Wall-era Michael Jackson territory.

The group mingles with high fashion, too, having remixed tracks for the runway and for designers, including the Dior line's summer show. Justice, however, favors leather-clad Judas Priest imagery and heavy metal aesthetic for its tonal opposite — "Number of the Beast" meets Studio 54. Past gigs, captured on the band's documentary and live album A Cross the Universe, featured an oversized, lit-up, neon cross above the stage, a show staple alongside stark light displays and fog machines, inviting showgoers into the Church of Dance. Augé and Rosnay preach a music-hyper, pop culture-obsessed digital sermon for audiences so inundated with music it all collides into an amorphous dance party. —Alex Woodward
