Killer tacos 

  The French Quarter bars Erin Rose and Molly's at the Market were founded by the late barkeep and raconteur Jim Monaghan and they share a lot of DNA. Soon, they will both have something in common in the food department as well.

  Cam Boudreaux and April Bellow, who run Killer Poboys (811 Conti St., 504-252-6745; www.killerpoboys.com) inside Erin Rose, plan to open a taco stand inside Molly's at the Market (1107 Decatur St., 504-525-5169; www.mollysatthemarket.net). They intend to launch with a three-day pop-up edition July 18-20, with future pop-up dates in the works and regular hours in late summer or early fall. Meanwhile, business continues as usual at Killer Poboys, which serves from noon to midnight every day except Tuesday.

  Boudreaux hasn't announced a name for the new venture, and the menu is still in the works, but he says the approach will be similar to Killer Poboys, which serves imaginative, multi-ethnic interpretations of the sandwich. A goat taco will be on the menu, along with vegan and vegetarian options, and as at Killer Poboys, the taco operation will source many ingredients from local suppliers.

  The concept is coming along at an interesting time for casual eats in the French Quarter. Down the block from Molly's at the Market, the team behind the craft cocktail bars Cure and Bellocq are renovating the former bar Pravda into Cane & Table (1113 Decatur St., phone n.a.), a tavern built around craft rum cocktails and a menu of Caribbean-inspired dishes from Adam Biderman, chef and founder of the Company Burger.

  "We're all about bringing better food downtown," Boudreaux says. "I think people want handmade food from a chef who cares. In fact, I'm betting my career on it."
