Lady Bo

Guitar powerhouse Peggy Jones -- aka Lady Bo -- is a veritable force of nature. The wiry sixtysomething dresses to kill and plays to take prisoners, spanking her guitar and hollering like there's a fire somewhere. After buying her first guitar at the age of 15, she quickly hooked up with Bo Diddley's band, touring and recording with him for much of the late '50s and early '60s, supplying its signature guitar sound that's now become so iconic. Rumor even has it that she did more than a little songwriting that went uncredited because of her gender. Other female guitarists followed in his band, but she's the original artifact. Opening up this New Year's Eve show is the Luke Allen Band, a harder iteration of the countryish Happy Talk Band. This version features electric bass, a punk rock drummer, and probably a worse mood applied to familiar songs. Tickets $10. -- Alison Fensterstock
