Let the Right One In

7:30 p.m. Tue.-Mon., Nov. 25-Dec.1; through Dec. 4

Zeitgeist Multi-Disciplinary Arts Center, 1618 Oretha Castle Haley Blvd., 827-5858; www.zeitgeistinc.net

If the relentless cheer of the holidays creeps you out the slightest bit, Let the Right One In will totally disabuse your comfort with winter wonderlands and meek, misfit children. Oskar is a frail, lonely boy living in a small Swedish town. Perhaps as a result of merciless bullying by a group of maniacal boys at school, he has a macabre fascination with revenge and crime. A killing spree that leaves men of the village gruesomely slaughtered and discarded in the woods can't keep him from the childish crush he has on a little girl, Eli, whom he meets in the courtyard one night. Thomas Alfredson's award-winning film captures the horrifying obliviousness of youthful innocence in a world of unnatural predation that obscures distinctions between salvation and damnation. Let the Right One In is the latest in a spree of recent major film-booking scoops at Zeitgeist, including Alex Gibney's documentary Gonzo, Man on Wire and JCVD. Tickets $7 general admission, $6 students/seniors, $5 children/Zeitgeist members. — Will Coviello
